GT BANK says it will stop charges on undergraduate

 GTBank says it has removed all bank charges for undergraduates between 16 years and 25 years on its GTCRea8 account product.
A statement said the undergraduates could now bank for free, as the bank would cover all charges on transfers, USSD transactions and bank alerts for holders of its GTCrea8 Account.
It stated that GTCRea8 had been a core part of the GTBank’s value proposition to deliver value- adding banking services to young people, while empowering them to pursue excellence in their academics and respective interests.
Over the years, it added, thousands of university undergraduates had benefited from GTCrea8 concerts, masterclasses, digital trainings, education support grants, and several other initiatives championed by the bank to ensure students have a more rewarding campus experience.
Now, it added, millions of students across the country would be able to bank for free following the bank’s commitment to cover the cost of all banking charges for GTCrea8 account holders.
Some of the bank charges that GTCrea8 account holders would no longer have to pay included charges on bank transfers, even when the transfer was to other banks.
It stated, “Undergraduates will also not be charged for using 737, the bank’s industry-leading USSD service, nor will students be charged for transaction alerts received whether via SMS or email.
“GTCrea8 account holders will also enjoy special offers and discounts when they make use of GTBank’s trendsetting digital platforms, such as Habari, which offers access to music and video streaming, shopping, messaging, and bills payment all in one place.”
The Chief Executive Officer, Guaranty Trust Bank, Segun Agbaje said, “Empowering young people in every way we can is the most valuable investment that we can make for the future.

Lagos state government begin free health screening for primary school student

The exercise began with a six-day free health screening from August 5, 2019, in seven Primary Health Centres, PHCs, across the state including Badagry, Akerele, Surulere, Ikotun, IgaIduganran, Epe, Onigbongo, and Ita- Elewa PHCs. At the flag-off, the Governor, represented by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, said the programme tagged “Healthy Bee Project” was purposely designed to keep children fit for their study and activities that would make them attain their potential.
Sanwo-Olu said the programme is a component of his development agenda to reposition healthcare and give disadvantaged children access to quality medical care.
He encouraged parents to utilise the opportunity to take their children for screening and treatment for medical conditions that can limit their mental and physical development.
“If children lack access to good health facilities and quality medical attention, they might lose their ability and functionality. We want to help them fight ailments that can put them at a disadvantage. This is the reason the programme is essential to make sure our children live a good and fulfilling life.”
On his part, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information & Strategy, Mr Fola Adeyemi described it as a promise kept.
The Wife of the Governor Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, who also spoke at the event, noted: “As a mother and medical doctor, I understand the momentous mileage we stand to gain from this strategic intervention championed by the State Government in partnership with BOSKOH Lagos Healthcare Mission International, and I must say I fully align myself with this all-important medical mission.”
Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Mrs. Titilayo Goncalves said the programme signalled the implementation phase of Sanwo-Olu’s healthcare initiative adding that the initiative seeks to increase access to quality health care service in line with the State’s Universal Health Coverage drive.

Sorrow rock in an old woman who think she will reap the fruit of her labour




Chukwudi Onweniwe, the man who killed his girlfriend, an HND student of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic Owo and has been sentenced to death by hanging. The sentencing was given by a High Court sitting in Akure, Ondo state.
Chukwudi Onweniwe was dragged before the court in May 22 2017 on a four count charge of action endangering life, kidnapping and abduction, rape and murder.
According to the Prosecutor, Jumoke Ogunjebi said the accused person abducted the deceased and took her “to a farm near Alayere, Ogbese, raped her and then snuffed life out of her by choking and strangulating her to death.
Mrs Adeyeoye said her daughter had informed her she was going to visit her friend on the day she went missing. Adeyeoye claimed she did not know the accused person though he was said to be her daughter’s boyfriend.
The court found him guilty after hearing from the two lawyers, he was also been said that he use her for ritual but he claimed he just kill her for fun.
“I did not remove any part of her body; I only killed her for the fun of it. I made love with her in the bush before killing her. I am not a cultist. It was when I killed her that I realised I made a big mistake and I wept bitterly,” he said.

Such a life: A veteran actor who is living in a duplex now stay in one room with his mother

Veteran Yoruba actor, Dayo Akinpelu, popularly known as Alabi Yellow , has moved in with his age mum as he battles stroke.
Report say the 62-year old actor lost his wife when his health deteriorated and has been facing several challenges.
Dayo Akinpelu is also the author of a popular Yoruba literature, ‘A BokoKu’ which pupils in junior secondary school study in their curriculum.
When reporters visited the veteran actor, a video which they took shows that he lives in a one-room apartment with his aged mother in Ikorodu, Lagos.

Suspected thief burnt to death in front of police station


A suspect killer and robber met his end today at the hands of angry youths in Ugep community, Cross River state. According to reports, the slain suspect allegedly killed a motorcyclist otherwise known as Okada rider while trying to steal his bike.
According to reports, the thief while trying to steal the bike from its owner, set the rider ablaze. He first threatened the young man to release the bike keys to him, but the owner refused and fought back.
The thief fought the young man harder and allegedly emptied the small gallon of fuel he was with on the guy and set him ablaze. He took off with the bike afterwards. The victim was found minutes after by sympathizers who took him to the hospital. The thief was later arrested by the police.
Unfortunately, the young man who was set ablaze passed away this morning. So, angry youths went to the police station, brought out the thief and burnt him by the road side in front of the station

Very sardonic event in lagos: fire destroy lot of properties and life's

An explosion rocked Orile-Agege area of Lagos, leaving two persons injured, while buildings and shops, including property worth several millions of naira, were destroyed.
Residents said that tragedy occurred after a high tension wire snapped and landed on one of the buildings in which was a cooking gas.
The explosion was followed by balls of fire which jolted residents, some of who were still asleep.
Some residents sustained varying degrees of injuries in their bid to escape being caught up in the raging fire which spread to other rooms.
Residents who were rendered homeless by the inferno appealed to the state government to come to their aid by providing alternative accommodation for them,.pending when they would get money to rent accommodation.
One of them, Saidu Mohammed, lamented that he lost everything he had laboured for since he started working eight years ago. He said: “I could not salvage anything from the fire. The most painful aspect is that the money I was supposed to pay into the bank on (Monday), on behalf of my company, got burnt. “I could not pay because the bank had closed. My intention was to pay it in today(yesterday), only for the unthinkable to happen.”
One of the shop owners, Mrs Mulikat Shuaib, like others, said the effort to salvage some of her wares proved abortive. She said: “I borrowed money from a friend to stockpile my shop. Unfortunately, everything is gone.
Two persons, a woman and a boy, who was severely injured, were rushed to the hospital.

Photographer Mofe Bamuyiwa posted the photo of the girl identified as Jare, writing:
“Oh yes she’s human! She’s also an angel!” he captioned the photo that has since turned thousands of Likes.
“I want to portray the interception between her childhood and adulthood so both stay timeless ! I could have made her smile and make her laugh out loud but I put her in their natural moments for us to see through their eyes ! Posing them as adults ! Was my trick to create it a timeless portrait ! J A R E , when you clock 21 remember to do same pose and style.” he added.
Speeding to Yahoo Lifestyle, Bamuyiwa explained that by positioning Jare in a more mature pose, she illustrated the intersection between child and adulthood.
“I’m pretty excited and elated about my new style of child portraiture . Before I thought of Photographing the @the_j3_sisters , I have had frivolous ideas of how I can make artsy portraits of kids And do away from the norm . The opportunity came and I had to take a bold step to express my ideas of how I want to take portraits of kids. I want to portray the interception between her childhood and adulthood so both stay timeless !”
“Jare isn’t a professional model,” Bamuyiwai said, adding that the girl’s two sisters, Jomi, 7, and Joba, 10, with their “striking features and strong characters,” have also posed for photos.
